Debate: City.com domain names.

Should “city.com” type domain names be in the hands of their local governments or in the hands of domainers.

  2. “.com” = (dot commercial)
    “.gov” = (dot government)

    I can’t register a “.gov” extension for a good reason. Am I missing something? These recent debates and proposed laws make no sense to me. Which government entity would get “Wilmington”? Delaware or North Carolina?

  3. Create standards for government entities.

    Delaware gets both:
    wilmingtonde.gov
    wilmingtondelaware.gov

    North Carolina gets both:
    wilmingtonnc.gov
    wilmingtonnorthcarolina.gov

    If the government or chamber of commerce wants wilmington.com, wilmingtonde.com, wilmingtonnc.com, or any other variation they could attempt to purchase the domain from the owner.

  4. When it comes to City.com domain names it should be if a particular Government Department wants to get a City.com domain they should buy it.

    Governments already have .gov domain name ext. and that is all they should ever have.

    They should have NO right to “steal” City.com from domain name owners - if they want it they should buy it.

  6. In all fairness, the city.com should rightfully be in the hands of whoever righfully purchased it. Hopefully, they won’t waste such prime real estate, but it is essentially up to them as the owner. The government has city.gov, so they should DEFINATELY NOT automatically have claim to the city.com.
