John~ You did the right thing with the post, end users could be reading your blog also. The auction was at Afternic which is full of end users and auctions like yours happen daily at Sedo & Afternic. You get a bid and have an option to send it to auction but normally do not know if it's a "business" or not. You just happened to know in this case and you also wanted more for the domain but settled on the auction. If the business won it for $600, then they should be happy that you sent it to auction at your lower price.

Promote your domains for sale anytime you can no matter the Bidder or the Price!

Sorry to leave two comments in a row, but I'm also reminded of the flowers.mobi sale. Rick bid that domain up knowing that an enduser was in the room bidding against him.

I saw the post and didn't find it the least bit offensive. I think the fact that the comment was left anonymously says it all... It's always important to consider not only what is said, but who is saying it and in what context. In fact, you don't even know for sure whether the comment was left by a domainer or a participant in your auction. In any event, I'm glad you got a good result with your auction, and I know that the money is going for something very important.

I love hearing stories about negotiations. This guy will certainly pay $2500, and I think it is a great name - hopefully you get some other bidders out there.

Knock on wood, I hope to be telling a cool story about buying a name shortly.

**John- I might get additional bidders, who knows. Sometimes the action will heat up a few minutes before the auction ends. So this current bidder may be shocked to find out that instead of cruising to the end with a cheap sale, may find they've lost the name by a few dollars and will have to contend with a whole 'nother domainer with a whole 'nother set of attitudes...

I would have held out for more, perhaps lowering to $1,500 for a quick sale. He was obviously interested in the domain from his tone. Although the printing industry has been hit hard in recent years, I would think that they could afford more than $500. Do you know how much a printing press costs? A lot.

Hi John,

With this one, I would of held out. They clearly want the domain and sometimes it takes a little to come to an agreement. $2,500 was and is a fair asking price but if you need the money, a sale is a sale. I hope it goes up in the auction and wish you the best.

WOW! This is some great info and IMO was done the exact same way i would have handled it. I love sending names to auction when people are interested. One more thing i would have done was contact other potential end-users and let them know of the auction. This will create competition and pressure the original buyer to take the BIN price. Good Job!
